Dr Hugh Lenehan
Specialist Periodontist
Dr Hugh Lenehan is a board-certified specialist periodontist with over a decade of clinical experience in Periodontic and Implant dentistry, practicing in both Canberra and Sydney since 2017.
Dr Lenehan opened ACT Perio in 2024, with a passion to provide high quality, professional and caring Periodontal services to Canberra and the surrounding region.
Dr Lenehan is known for his ongoing commitment to treatment grounded in empirical evidence, integrated professional cooperation across multiple disciplines and personalised patient care.
Education
Dr Lenehan completed his Bachelor of Medical Science degree in 2006 and a further Bachelor of Dentistry with honours in 2009. After graduation he was an acting Dental Officer for the Westmead Centre for Oral Health for many years before transferring to a private practice in Mount Gambier South Australia.
During this time, Dr Lenehan completed primary and secondary stage examinations and successfully became a Fellow in the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons.
To pursue his strong interest in Periodontics and Implant Dentistry, Dr Lenehan completed specialist training (Doctor of Clinical Dentistry) in Periodontics in 2016 and was awarded the Dentsply award for research in bone augmentation.
Dr Lenehan is also a member of the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Periodontists, the Australian Society of Periodontology and the International Team for Implantology.
When not taking care of his patients, Hugh enjoys spending time with his wife Elise and 4 young children.
Dr Lakshmi Boyapat
Specialist Periodontist
Dr Lakshmi Boyapati joined the ACT Perio team in early 2025, after practicing in Seattle, Washington for over 15 years.
Dr. Boyapati is a board-certified periodontist with two decades of clinical, academic, and research experience in periodontics and implant dentistry. During this time Dr. Boyapati has specialized in advanced periodontal procedures including soft tissue grafting, implant placement, osseous surgery, and guided tissue regeneration.
Dr. Boyapati is known for her commitment to evidence-based care, interdisciplinary collaboration, and the advancement of surgical techniques in periodontology.
Education
During her initial studies in Australia, Dr. Boyapati earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery with honors from the University of Sydney. She went on to complete her Master of Science and Certificate in Periodontics at the University of Michigan. She further advanced her training through the prestigious ITI Implant Scholarship at the University of Bern in Switzerland under Dr. Niklaus Lang.
Dr. Boyapati has held clinical faculty roles at the University of Michigan, the University of Illinois at Chicago, the University of Washington, and Swedish Hospital's General Practice Residency Program. She has also been published in peer-reviewed journals, including key contributions to the understanding of bone regeneration.
Dr Boyapati is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Academy of Periodontology and the American Dental Association.
She is also a member of the Australian Dental Association and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology.
Dr. Boyapati continues to be a proud leader in continuing education and facilitating presentations, local study clubs and Co-chairs the International Team of Implantology study club alongside Dr John Cho.
Janell Quarderer
Periodontal Hygienist
Janell Quarderer has over 33 years of experience practicing dental hygiene across the United States, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Throughout her distinguished career, Janell has worked in both general and periodontal practices across the U.S., including California, Florida, and Maryland, before relocating to the United Kingdom. After enjoying three years in private practice in London, she has spent the last three years practicing in Canberra, Australia.
Janell is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care while empowering patients through education to achieve and maintain optimal oral health. She is known for building strong rapport with her patients and guiding them through comfortable, successful periodontal treatment and maintenance programs.
Education
She earned her original dental hygiene qualifications from Pasadena College in California in 1994.
Committed to excellence, Janell stays at the forefront of the latest dental research, techniques, and technologies by regularly attending lectures, conferences, and professional training to continually expand her clinical expertise.
Outside of the clinic, Janell enjoys traveling, hiking with her family, and staying active through tennis and pickleball.
